Chelsea ready to sell Joao Felix this summer, Aston Villa still keen

Chelsea will look to part ways with 25-year-old Portuguese international Joao Felix in the summer transfer window, with Aston Villa interested in securing his services.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Joao Felix is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window and have their sights on the Chelsea flop. The Portuguese international has struggled to make his mark at AC Milan, and the Blues want to part ways with him when his loan spell ends.

Joao Felix and his struggles

Joao Felix was once among the best young attacking prospects in the world when he broke onto the scene at SL Benfica over half a dozen years ago. He earned a move away from his boyhood club after his breakthrough season, with Atletico Madrid breaking the bank to secure his services. However, the spell did not work out as well as he would have liked, with loan stints with Chelsea and Barcelona yielding mixed results.

Felix’s ill-fated spell with Atletico Madrid ended last summer, with Chelsea forking out £46.3 million to secure his services. However, the 25-year-old struggled in the first half of the 2024/25 season before AC Milan handed him an escape route in the winter transfer window. But the move has not worked out, with the player’s struggles continuing.

The Portuguese international has a paltry tally of one goal and one assist in ten appearances across all competitions, with his only strike coming on debut. So, it will be surprising to see Felix remaining at AC Milan beyond the summer transfer window. Recent reports have claimed that he is increasingly unlikely to continue at San Siro. However, Aston Villa will aim to rescue the Chelsea loanee from his misery.

Move across the Premier League on the cards?

Aston Villa mulled over signing Joao Felix in the winter transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest in the Chelsea flop is understandable, considering the Villans are in a spot of bother over the long-term futures of Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford.

Despite his struggles at Chelsea and AC Milan, Felix’s stock in the market remains high. Unai Emery, in particular, is keen on taking the struggling Portuguese international to Aston Villa, and a summer move is on the cards.

However, it will be surprising to see Chelsea recouping anything close to the £46.3 million they paid to sign the 25-year-old last summer. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for Felix.
