Valencia keen on extending Enzo Barrenechea loan

Valencia are reportedly looking to extend Enzo Barrenechea’s stay at the club, with the midfielder currently on loan from Aston Villa.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, La Liga outfit Valencia want to retain the services of Enzo Barrenechea, who has been a consistent performer for them in the ongoing season. Carlos Corberan sees him as an integral part of his plans, and he has urged his club’s sporting director to secure his stay at all costs.

Barrenechea was a part of the Juventus youth setup. While he did make it to their first team, the Argentine midfielder never really got an extended run in their team. He ended up parting ways with them last summer.

While Aston Villa secured his services, they ended up sending him out on a season-long loan to Valencia. The 23-year-old has certainly made the most out of his loan spell in Spain. He has been involved in 23 matches while contributing towards three goals.

Enzo Barrenechea has been one of their standout performers, and he has certainly impressed Carlos Corberan. His ability to win back the ball and play it out from the back has made him a key figure in the team, and the Spanish coach now wants to ensure his continuity at the club.

Barrenechea could continue at Mestalla

With the loan deal expiring at the end of the season, Valencia’s manager has asked the club chiefs to do everything in their power to keep Barrenechea at the club. The Spanish club are exploring various options to keep him for at least another season.

Los Che are looking at two different possibilities. The initial plan is to extend his loan spell for another season as it will allow them to avoid an immediate expenditure of his signing. However, they are also considering signing him on a permanent basis.

Valencia have approached Aston Villa to learn more about a potential transfer. The reports suggest Unai Emery’s team could end up sanctioning his departure for a fee of between €7-8 million. While they are making moves to retain him, Valencia will only take a final call after having a close look at their financial situation.

The Spanish outfit will only go ahead with a permanent move if they manage to raise funds by sanctioning a few departures. Barrenechea has impressed everyone at Mestalla, and there is a high possibility that he will end up staying there.
