Arsenal have maintained an interest in Ajax sensation Jorrel Hato despite the presence of many other stars in the same position.
According to TBR, Arsenal retains an interest in Jorrel Hato and could consider making a move for the 19-year-old defender in the summer. Liverpool are also keen on the left-sided defensive star, although the Gunners might have done a lot of groundwork owing to their previous interest in the Dutchman.
Arsenal fans will be a bit baffled should Mikel Arteta go about signing another left-back. The current squad has a plethora of options in a single position in addition to Jurrien Timber who has played there before. However, there are a raft of departures expected as well as future changes with one key star there, that could open the space for another signing.
Last summer, Arsenal did sign Riccardo Calafiori, and while the Italian remains a top talent, he’s yet to cement a place in Arteta’s starting eleven. The emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly has added another layer of complication for Calafiori, who often finds himself on the bench with the teenager being favoured to start key games in recent months.
When the summer window opens there might be a raft of departures from the defensive department as Keiran Tierney is already bound for Celtic on a free transfer. Arsenal could consider a sale of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior, which does leave them short of options in the left side of the defence, while Lewis-Skelly is seen more as a long-term midfield option as opposed to his current spot at left-back.
Arsenal had an interest in Jorrel Hato before the emergence of Lewis-Skelly, and now it appears, they retain their admiration for the 19-year-old defender. The Dutchman has a lot of other clubs keeping tabs with Liverpool one of those keen, as at one point it appeared the Gunners had cooled their chase.
Arsenal could sign Jorrel Hato in the summer
Liverpool have contemplated an approach for Hato, while Real Madrid are also keen on the left-sided defender. However, Arsenal may have done considerable groundwork with the defender, which may give them an edge in the chase.
Moreover, the Gunners could see Hato as a key addition rather than just a backup, as he can play centrally as well as a left-back. The latter has been one of his main roles with Ajax this season, as he seems like a player well-adapted to fulfill either of those two roles at his future club.
