Tammy Abraham could be open to making a return to Aston Villa in the summer as his time in Serie A looks to be over beyond this season.
According to Football Insider, Aston Villa could be handed a boost in their pursuit of Tammy Abraham, with the striker keen on returning to the club. The English forward played a season with Villa while in the EFL Championship, and now he continues to struggle for relevance in Serie A.
Tammy Abraham was seen as a big talent coming out of Chelsea’s Cobham academy and did benefit a great deal from the club’s loan system. One of the teams he spent time at was Aston Villa during the 2018/19 season, scoring 25 times in the second tier.
He has since had a good enough career with Chelsea and then made the surprise move to AS Roma despite some Premier League interest. Chelsea retained a buyback clause on his contract, although as time has passed, the condition has seemed irrelevant as they are unlikely to exercise it.
His career stalled somewhat on the final day of the 2022/23 season when he suffered an unfortunate ACL injury. He has since struggled for relevance in Serie A, as currently, Abraham is on loan at AC Milan, where he has 12 goals and assists this season across all competitions.
There are chances of the striker seeking a return to the Premier League in the close season, with AS Roma expected to be open to offers. He may not even be an expensive option for many teams, with Aston Villa reportedly considering a move for the striker, while there are many others interested in Abraham.
Tammy Abraham keen on Aston Villa return
Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing a new striker in the summer transfer window, and the club will then look at signing a replacement for Jhon Duran. The Colombian international left to sign a deal with Saudi side Al-Nassr, which has indeed left a void, as Unai Emery’s side are eager to bring a new face, with names like Samu Aghehowa linked with a move.
Should Aston Villa also make their interest in Abraham known, the striker might be open to making a move back to Villa Park. He has had a good connection with the fans there, while there’s a belief that the AS Roma striker could make a good fit in their frontline alongside Ollie Watkins.
