Aston Villa in contact with Samu Aghehowa

Aston Villa sporting director Monchi has reportedly contacted the representatives of 20-year-old FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa.

According to a report by Sacha Tavolieri on Sky Sport Switzerland, Samu Aghehowa is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the FC Porto attacker. They have contacted the Spanish forward’s entourage, and discussions with Unai Emery might be on the cards.

Samu Aghehowa and his rising stock

Samu Aghehowa has established himself as one of the best young prospects in Europe in the last 18 months. A native of Melilla, the Spaniard graduated from the youth division at Granada CF before joining Atletico Madrid in August 2023. However, the youngster did not play for Los Rojiblancos, instead spending the 2023/24 season on loan at Deportivo Alaves.

The 20-year-old spent last summer representing Spain at the 2024 Paris Olympics and winning the gold medal. The youngster’s spell with Atletico Madrid also ended around then, with FC Porto signing him in August 2024. The player has been excellent thus far this term, contributing to 23 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions.

The Spanish striker has found the back of the net 20 times and provided three assists. Meanwhile, Samu’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the highly-rated striker, with Aston Villa looking to beat the competition to his signature in the summer transfer window.

Premier League adventure beckoning?

Aston Villa’s interest in Samu Aghehowa is understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window after losing Jhon Duran this past winter. The Colombian international sealed a shock move to Al-Nassr, leaving Ollie Watkins as the only out-and-out striker in Unai Emery’s squad.

While Marcus Rashford can reprise the role, it is unclear if the English international will complete a permanent move to Aston Villa in the summer transfer window. So, Samu has emerged as a viable target for the West Midlands outfit, with the Premier League club in contact with the Spaniard’s representatives.

The Villans want to introduce the Spanish striker as they look to secure his services in the summer transfer window. The report has pointed to Aston Villa being in the pole position to sign the 20-year-old Olympics 2024 gold medalist. So, it will be interesting to see if a summer move sees the light of day.
