West Ham United’s need for a new striker could lead them into the race for RC Strasbourg forward Emanuel Emegha in the summer.
According to Give Me Sport, West Ham United are considering entering the race for Emanuel Emegha ahead of the summer. The Hammers are considering the RC Strasbourg forward as a potential option to improve their attacking setup, with Newcastle United also mulling over a move for the 22-year-old in the close season.
West Ham United will dip into the summer market in search of strikers, as manager Graham Potter will ideally want multiple options in the forward positions. The Hammers have had a shortage of centre-forwards this season following the long-term injuries sustained by Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio, while Danny Ings remains firmly an option for the bench.
The Hammers did sign Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. Without a buy option or obligation in the deal, they remain open to bringing in another name. Jonathan David remains a key target, and while West Ham could sign the Canadian international, Potter would prefer another name.
One of those could be Emanuel Emegha, as West Ham considered a winter move for the Strasbourg star. The Ligue 1 outfit were uninterested in doing business around then, although the possibility of a summer move remains on the cards for the striker, who has contribtued to 13 goals this season.
West Ham have been particularly impressed with the way Emanuel Emegha has turned his form around after an early-season knee injury. They are in the market for multiple names and have been linked to Samu Aghehowa and other sides. In the race for Emegha, they are set to face massive competition from Newcastle United.
West Ham will face Newcastle United competition
West Ham might have a clear-cut need for new centre-forwards, but they will face competition for their targets, including Emanuel Emegha. Chelsea are seen as a possible threat to the Hammers, although the Londoners see Newcastle United as a more significant problem. The Magpies are in the market for a new striker, as they could view the Strasbourg star with 13 goals and assists as a replacement for Callum Wilson.
The Magpies could even be faced with the possibility of seeing Alexander Isak depart in the summer, for which they have earmarked Hugo Ekitike as a potential target. In any case, Eddie Howe’s side could go head to head with West Ham for Emegha as a complementary striker rather than looking at him as their man No.9.
