PSG line up €80 million move for Gavi

Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old Spanish midfield sensation Gavi from FC Barcelona in a deal worth €80 million in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Gavi is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 champions are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Barcelona midfield sensation. Les Parisiens will look to tempt the Blaugrana with a bid worth €80 million.

The rise and rise and Gavi

Gavi has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the world since breaking into the first-team squad at FC Barcelona. A native of Los Palacios y Villafranca, the Spaniard began his youth career with Real Betis before joining Barcelona in July 2015. The youngster subsequently progressed through the ranks in La Masia before breaking into the first-team squad.

The 20-year-old made his first-team bow at the onset of the 2021/22 season, and he has been a regular in the middle of the park for Barcelona. The highly-rated midfielder has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for the Blaugrana while chipping in with nine goals and 17 assists.

In addition, the youngster’s exploits for Barcelona have helped him become a regular for his national side, already making 27 appearances for Spain. Meanwhile, the Spanish midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Paris Saint-Germain.

Parisian adventure awaits?

PSG’s interest in Gavi is understandable. The Ligue 1 champions are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. While Vitinha and Joao Neves are world-class performers for PSG, they need another top-class option in the middle of the park.

So, several midfielders, including Kevin De Bruyne, have emerged on PSG’s radar, with Gavi also a viable target for Les Parisiens. The report by Fichajes has claimed that the Ligue 1 champions are keen on securing the 20-year-old Spaniard’s services in a deal worth €80 million.

However, it is unclear if Barcelona will be open to accepting a bid worth €80 million to part ways with the Spanish international in the summer transfer window. The youngster has a hefty release clause in his contract, and the Blaugrana might demand a premium to entertain a sale.
