Everton and Fulham are reportedly in a three-way Premier League battle alongside Bournemouth to sign 30-year-old Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard this summer.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Christian Norgaard is highly sought-after in the Premier League market heading into the summer transfer window. Everton, Fulham, and Bournemouth are keen on signing the Brentford captain. The 30-year-old midfielder will be out of contract on July 1, and a Bosman move might be on the cards.
Christian Norgaard and his impact at Brentford
Christian Norgaard has established himself as one of the most dependable performers in the Premier League since Brentford earned promotion from the EFL Championship a few years ago. A native of Copenhagen, the Dane has been with the West London outfit since July 2019, and he has come leaps and bounds in the last half a dozen years.
The 30-year-old has risen in stature throughout his stint with Brentford, and he is the current skipper at the Premier League club. Norgaard has turned out nearly 200 times thus far for the Bees while chipping in with 11 goals and 16 assists.
However, Norgaard’s long-term future at the Gtech Community Stadium is uncertain after entering the final six months of his contract with Brentford. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Everton and Fulham among the prospective suitors vying for the Danish midfielder’s signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Everton’s interest in Christian Norgaard is understandable. Idrissa Gueye is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career. So, Everton can do with a new midfielder in the summer transfer window, with the Brentford captain emerging as a viable target for the Merseyside outfit.
As for Fulham, Andreas Pereira faces an uncertain future at Craven Cottage heading into the summer transfer window amid his links with Brazilian clubs. So, the Cottagers can do with a new midfielder who can compete with Sander Berge and Sasa Lukic in the double pivot, with Norgaard being an option worth considering.
Everton and Fulham are not alone in the race to secure Norgaard’s services, with Bournemouth also keen on sealing a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. In addition, Bundesliga outfits FSV Mainz 05 and SC Freiburg are also interested in the 30-year-old Danish international. The overseas clubs will have an advantage in the chase, as they can secure a pre-contract agreement with him.
