Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have taken an initial step towards signing AC Milan’s star forward Rafael Leao.
According to a report from Calciomercato, Chelsea are interested in the services of Rafael Leao, and they have already made a move as they look to sign the AC Milan star. The Blues have reached out to the player’s representatives as they look to learn more about a potential transfer.
The Sporting CP graduate made a name for himself at LOSC Lille before joining Milan in the summer of 2019. He has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Italian giants and has been one of their standout performers in recent years.
But, things haven’t been that great for him of late. While he has 10 goals and seven assists in his 37 outings, he hasn’t been a regular starter for them this season. The Portuguese international has often found himself on the bench, something that hasn’t really happened to him since he joined the club.
The relationship between the player and the club is not as strong as it used to be. Since his performances on the pitch are still top-notch, there are clubs that could look to make the most out of his situation at Milan. Chelsea are one of the clubs that are interested in his signature.
Chelsea gearing up to make a move for Leao?
The Blues are always on the lookout for more quality, and they feel the 25-year-old could be an ideal fit for their squad. While their attack has started to click under Maresca, the Italian still feels the need to have more firepower.
Leao will add a lot of pace, and his goal-scoring abilities can certainly make them a lot more threatening going forward. More importantly, he could be available for a much lower fee than his €175 million release clause. The Blues are convinced about his potential, and they do want to bet on him. They have already taken a step towards signing him by contacting people close to him and learning more about a potential deal.
