Manchester United have better chance to land Liam Delap than Victor Osimhen

Manchester United reportedly believe they have a better chance of signing Liam Delap instead of Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen are the subjects of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. However, they feel they stand a better chance of landing the Ipswich Town centre-forward instead of the Nigerian international.

Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen: Two top targets for Manchester United

Liam Delap has established himself as one of the most promising young strikers in the Premier League this season. The Englishman joined Ipswich Town from Manchester City last summer, and he has been a rare bright spot for the Tractor Boys, amassing ten goals and two assists in 26 Premier League appearances.

On the other hand, Victor Osimhen has spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Galatasaray, joining the Turkish club from Napoli on the deadline day of the summer transfer window after burning bridges with the Serie A giants. While the move shocked many, the Nigerian international has been exceptional for Galatasaray.

The 26-year-old striker has contributed to 25 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net 20 times and providing five assists. Osimhen’s exploits have put him on the radar of European bigwigs, with Manchester United keen on pursuing him and Delap, among others, in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United need a striker

Manchester United’s interest in Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window amid Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee’s struggles in the final third. The two attackers have only five goals in the Premier League between them, adding to Manchester United’s woes.

So, it is hardly surprising that Manchester United want to sign a striker this summer. However, the Red Devils believe they have a better chance of landing Delap than Osimhen. The former will cost £50 million, while the latter has a release clause higher than Ipswich Town’s asking price for Delap.

However, recent reports have claimed that Osimhen’s wages might complicate Manchester United’s bid to sign him in the summer transfer window amid their PSR issues. So, it will not be surprising to see the £50 million-rated Delap joining the Premier League heavyweights instead of Osimhen.
