Liverpool and Newcastle United want to sign Assane Diao

Liverpool and Newcastle United are interested in Spanish winger Assane Diao, who has been impressive for new club Como.

According to Caught Offside, Assane Diao is attracting big interest from Premier League clubs, as Liverpool and Newcastle United remain keen. The Como winger, who joined the Serie A upstarts only in January, has impressed with his performances, which could lead to a swift departure from Italy and onto the shores of England.

Assane Diao had an inconsistent start to the season with Real Betis, scoring once all season in Serie A before they chose to sell him. Serie A upstart Como made a club record €12 million bid to sign the winger, and he has since been phenomenal for Cesc Fabregas’ side, scoring five times in eight league games.

While he’s expected to improve between now and the end of the season, interest in the attacker is already mounting, as Liverpool and Newcastle United are looking at signing him. Both those English clubs are looking to strengthen the right wing in the summer, although it remains to be seen whether they view the €12 million winger as their first choice for the position.

Liverpool’s interest is somewhat surprising given they are ideally looking to replace Mohamed Salah, with the Egyptian leaning towards a departure as a free agent in the summer. There are big links to Saudi Arabia as his next destination, and given his output for the Merseysiders, it’s difficult to see them sign a young talent like Diao as his direct replacement.

Liverpool are linked with names like Xavi Simons, among others, as Arne Slot would surely want a proven talent in place of the Egyptian talisman. In any case, Liverpool could still look to improve the position by signing two wingers, with Diao an ideal player should the manager consider him a squad rotation player ahead of next season.

Newcastle United to rival Liverpool for Assane Diao

Newcastle United are looking for a new right winger after the departure of Miguel Almiron. Eddie Howe has some big names on his radar, including Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo. The idea here is to create a formidable front three by adding a new attacker on the right side to partner with Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon. Diao may have the talent, but he’s yet to prove himself in a big way to be suited for the Magpies.

Bryan Mbeumo is also a big target for Newcastle United, and it might be a case of adding one formidable talent while bringing in someone like Diao to complement the attacking setup. Either way, Newcastle United are interested in the €12 million winger from Como and could be in the mix to sign him in the summer.
