Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard on Saudi Pro League radar, Arsenal may have to sell one player

Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have reportedly emerged as targets for the Saudi Pro League heading into the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are subjects of interest from the Saudi Pro League ahead of the summer transfer window. While the mercurial attackers are pivotal figures for Arsenal, the North London club might not have any option but to part ways with one player to fund a summer rebuild.

Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and their Arsenal journeys

Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have endured a topsy-turvy ride throughout their stints with Arsenal. The former has been with the North London club for a longer duration, having arrived from his homeland in July 2019, immediately slotting into the first-team squad despite being 18 years old.

While the Brazilian international has shown flashes of brilliance in the last half a dozen years, he has blown hot and cold in recent campaigns. Martinelli has managed only seven goals and four assists in 35 appearances across all competitions, a paltry tally for a player of his potential and talent.

Trossard has not been much different, managing only five goals and seven assists in 39 outings in all competitions. With Arsenal overly dependent on Bukayo Saka, the duo’s inability to chip in with regular contributions in the opponent’s box has been disappointing. Nevertheless, their stock in the market is high, with Saudi Pro League clubs considering signing them in the summer transfer window.

What next?

Leandro Trossard was a target for Saudi Pro League clubs last summer before a deal failed to see the light of day. The winter transfer window also produced links for the Belgian international, but Arsenal did not want to cash in on him. As for Martinelli, recent years have witnessed rumours of European bigwigs being interested in him.

Meanwhile, recent reports have claimed that Arsenal will look to tie the Brazilian international to a new long-term deal. However, the Gunners might find themselves in a situation where they might have to cash in one of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard in the summer transfer window.

The North London club will embark on a rebuild project in the summer transfer window. So, the two mercurial attackers will be Arsenal’s best bet to fund big-money moves in the coming months. So, it will be interesting to see if the Premier League heavyweights sacrifice one of the players.
