Aston Villa, Tottenham, Newcastle United vying for Adam Wharton

Premier League trio Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United vying for Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton.

Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United are gearing up for a potential summer bidding war over Crystal Palace’s talented midfielder, Adam Wharton. The 21-year-old, who has impressed since making the switch to Selhurst Park, is now firmly on the radar of some of the Premier League’s top clubs.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou is reportedly keen to bolster his squad further, despite securing Mathys Tel on an initial loan deal in January. Tottenham’s interest in Wharton comes as part of a broader effort to reinforce their midfield, with recruitment chiefs at Hotspur Way monitoring the England international’s progress closely.

However, Postecoglou is not alone in his admiration. Both Unai Emery’s Aston Villa and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are also tracking Wharton, making it a highly competitive chase ahead of the summer transfer window.

While Crystal Palace were keen to retain Wharton in January, slapping a hefty £60 million price tag on him to ward off interest, the summer could present a new challenge. With multiple clubs vying for his signature, the Eagles may struggle to keep hold of their midfield star according to Give Me Sport.

Crystal Palace Holding Firm, but Interest is Growing

Despite the growing speculation, Crystal Palace remain in a strong negotiating position. Wharton’s current contract, which sees him earn £35,000 per week, runs for another four years, meaning the club is under no pressure to sell. Unless a significant offer is made, Crystal Palace are unlikely to sanction a move.

The race for Wharton’s signature has also seen Manchester United withdraw their interest, giving Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United a clearer path. However, they are not the only clubs keeping tabs. European heavyweights such as Bayern Munich and Juventus have also been monitoring the situation, and Manchester City’s previous interest means the door is still open for potential competition.

While Postecoglou, Emery, and Howe are all eager to reinforce their midfield options, convincing Palace to sell will be a challenge. The club has maintained that signing Wharton from Blackburn Rovers for £22 million last year was a major coup, and they are reluctant to part ways with a player they believe will play a key role in their long-term plans.

Despite the growing interest, Wharton himself has shown no signs of agitating for a move. The young midfielder is reportedly content at Crystal Palace and remains a key figure in Oliver Glasner’s plans. Since recovering from a groin injury, he has reclaimed his spot in the starting lineup and continues to deliver strong performances.

While the admiration from top clubs may eventually turn Wharton’s head, it will take serious convincing to lure him away from Selhurst Park. Palace are in no rush to cash in, and unless the player expresses a clear desire to leave, any deal will likely require a substantial financial package.

A Worthy Investment or a Tough Gamble?

Adam Wharton’s rise has been impressive, and it’s easy to see why clubs like Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle are vying for his services. His technical ability, composure in midfield, and defensive awareness make him a valuable asset for any top Premier League side.

However, the biggest hurdle remains Crystal Palace’s stance. With a long-term contract in place and no signs of Wharton actively pushing for a move, it will take a serious bid to make the Eagles reconsider. If a bidding war ensues, the question for interested clubs will be whether he is worth the £60 million valuation.
