Aston Villa reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Spanish international Ferran Torres from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Football Insider, Ferran Torres is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window. So, the Barcelona forward has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.
Ferran Torres and his Barcelona bother
Ferran Torres has endured a frustrating stint since joining Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022. The move surprised many, considering Pep Guardiola held the Spaniard in high regard. However, the opportunity to move to Camp Nou was too attractive to turn down for the former Valencia star.
While the 24-year-old has been prolific in the final third for Barcelona, he has been a backup player since the 2022/23 season began. The former Manchester City attacker has also been productive this term, contributing to 14 goals in only 1,020 minutes of game time, finding the back of the net 11 times and providing three assists.
However, with regular game time eluding Torres, a summer move away from Barcelona might be on the cards, with several high-profile clubs across Europe vying for his signature. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Spanish international, with recent reports linking him with Arsenal and Tottenham. However, Aston Villa are eager to beat the competition to his signature.
Premier League return on the horizon?
Ferran Torres has been on Aston Villa’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, considering Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio’s long-term futures at Villa Park are uncertain. In addition, Leon Bailey has fallen in the pecking order in the last 12 months. So, Aston Villa should invest in a versatile attacker in the summer transfer window.
Torres has thus emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa, with the West Midlands outfit lining up a summer move for the 24-year-old Spaniard. However, while the Villans can offer the Barcelona attacker regular game time, other big-name suitors might have the UEFA Champions League on the table.
So, Aston Villa will not have a straightforward pursuit of the Spanish international if he leaves FC Barcelona in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see where Torres plies his trade in the 2024/25 season.
