Chelsea are interested in acquiring the services of versatile Barcelona star Ferran Torres ahead of next season.
Chelsea have been quite active in the recent transfer windows and they already have too many players on their books. While quite a few of their stars look surplus to requirements and they are looking to sanction their departure, the Blues are still in the market for more quality.
According to a report from Fichajes, the London club are gearing up to make a move for the services of Ferran Torres who has lost prominence at Barcelona. He has been more of a cover for the stars and Chelsea are ready to offer him a way out.
Torres made quite a name for himself coming up the ranks and playing for the first team of Valencia. He ended up joining Manchester City in the summer of 2020 but things didn’t work out for him under Pep Guardiola. The 24-year-old then made the move to Barcelona at the start of 2022.
While he did have an impressive start and his ability to feature anywhere in attack came in handy, things haven’t been that great for him under Hansi Flick. The Spanish international is no longer a key figure in the team. He is more of a backup player with less than 1,000 minutes of first-team action across his 26 appearances.
Despite contributing towards 13 goals, Torres hasn’t been able to book his place as a regular which has resulted in a lot of chatter around his future. While his contract at the Catalan club runs until the summer of 2027, his performances have impressed quite a few clubs who will want to lure him away.
Chelsea to push for Torres
Chelsea are one of the clubs who are interested in the 24-year-old. The Blues seek more firepower in the final third ahead of next season and they feel the versatile Torres could help their cause. He is quite high on their wishlist as they look to prepare for life without Joao Felix and Christopher Nukunku.
The French forward is not happy with the limited game time while the Portuguese forward has already left the club temporarily for a similar reason. Both stars are expected to leave the club permanently next summer and they feel Torres could be an ideal player to reinforce their team.
The London club are reportedly willing to fork out €30 million to sign him. It will be interesting to see if that will be enough to convince Barcelona to sell.
