Chelsea ready to cash in on Trevoh Chalobah

Chelsea are ready to part ways with Trevoh Chalobah in the summer, with the defender’s sale seen as a way to raise key funds.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea are likely to sell Trevoh Chalobah in the summer to help them raise funds for new signings. The defender was recalled from a loan at Crystal Palace and has struggled since his return to Stamford Bridge, as the club has stuck to their assessment that the versatile defender is not a big part of their plans.

The summer window caused a lot of debate surrounding the treatment of Trevoh Chalobah after Chelsea axed him from their first-team plans alongside several other seasoned stars. As the Blues struggled to find a permanent suitor for the versatile defender, they had to loan him out to Crystal Palace, where he excelled under Oliver Glasner.

Chelsea had some defensive issues with injuries and a drop in performances, as the club contemplated recalling Chalobah from his loan and did so successfully. While he was one of the key men at the back for Palace, the versatile defender has struggled since returning to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea already have a price tag in mind for Chalobah as they are leaning towards selling the defender to raise key funds in the summer for new signings. Chelsea wanted to offload the versatile defender last summer for the same reason and might find their way after the current season ends.

The Blues are still in the process of building a promising squad capable of challenging for major honours in the coming years. Hence, they will search the market for key defensive reinforcements, as Chalobah could be the latest to leave the project alongside some other unwanted players.

Chelsea are looking to sign new defenders

The decision to recall Chalobah was fueled by their idea of offloading Axel Disasi and the injury to Wesley Fofana. While the academy graduate does plug a gap in their defence, the way he was treated back in the summer showcased Chelsea’s desire to offload him then, and that has not changed. The Blues are already in the market to sign a top-draw defender, as they are confident of landing Marc Guehi in the summer

Chelsea are also linked with a big move for Jules Kounde, and to get those names like the Frenchman and Guehi, they would need massive funds. Sales of players like Chalobah could help them partly in landing those top targets, as the versatile defender will have to find a new suitor as soon as the season ends,
