Barcelona, Manchester City and Real Madrid will have to fork out £100 million to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
Florian Wirtz has made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances over the last few seasons. Multiple top clubs from across Europe have been monitoring him and they could soon try to lure him away from Bayer Leverkusen.
Manchester City are believed to be one of the teams that are keen on his signature. Apart from the English giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona could also enter the race for his signature. Interest clubs will have to break the bank to sign him. According to a report from Football Insider, the German club want £100 million to sanction the departure of their attacking sensation.
Wirtz joined Leverkusen at the start of 2020. While it started with their Under19s, the 21-year-old got promoted to their first team in just six months. He already has 186 first-team appearances and has even contributed towards 118 goals.
After playing a massive part in their title-winning campaign last season, Wirtz has carried the good form into the 2024/25 season. He has contributed towards 27 goals in his 34 outings. While he prefers playing as a ten, the German international can feature anywhere in attack.
While Leverkusen would love to have him on their team for as long as possible, they are aware of the fact that big clubs will come knocking for his signature next summer. Manchester City are one of the clubs that can surely make a move for him.
Manchester City keen on Wirtz
Pep Guardiola’s club could be on the lookout for a long-term replacement of Kevin De Bruyne who is in the twilight of his career and has been struggling to stay fit. Wirtz has all the qualities to take the Belgian superstar’s place in the City lineup.
While they have other options on their wishlist, the 21-year-old is certainly up there. With his contract at Leverkusen running out in 2027, City could look to make a move next summer. But, they will have to make a massive investment to acquire his services. The report suggests they will have to table an offer worth £100 million to convince the German club to sell.
City to compete with the Spanish giants
Meanwhile, Real Madrid and Barcelona could also enter the race. They have been monitoring him for a while now and would certainly love to have one of the best young stars in their squad.
While Los Blancos already have a lot of quality on their squad, they could look to part ways with a few to make room for the 21-year-old. As far as the Catalan giants are concerned, they will have to put in a lot of effort to secure his services as they don’t have the best of finances.
