West Ham United eyeing Bosman move for Callum Wilson

West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 32-year-old Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Callum Wilson is the subject of interest from West Ham United. Bournemouth, Coventry City, and Leeds United are also keen on signing the Newcastle United striker in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The English international wants to remain in the Premier League when he departs from St. James’ Park as a free agent later this year.

Callum Wilson and his Newcastle United journey

Callum Wilson has been one of the most productive strikers in the Premier League since rising in prominence during his spell with Bournemouth. The Englishman’s stint with the Cherries ended when he joined Newcastle United in September 2020. Since then, he has been a reliable performer for the Tyneside outfit.

However, the 32-year-old has struggled with fitness issues throughout his Premier League career, missing dozens of games in the last decade. Nevertheless, the veteran striker has a decent record of 49 goals and 11 assists in 114 appearances across all competitions thus far for Newcastle United.

However, the English international will likely leave Newcastle United as a free agent in the summer transfer window after entering the final six months of his contract. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, including West Ham United.

London calling?

West Ham United’s interest in Callum Wilson makes sense. The Hammers are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window, considering Evan Ferguson might not complete a permanent move after the 2024/25 season ends. So, several candidates, including Jonathan David, are on West Ham United’s radar.

However, Wilson is also a viable target, considering his tremendous experience in the Premier League. But the 32-year-old Englishman’s fitness issues might be a red flag for West Ham United, considering the veteran striker has barely featured for Newcastle United this season.

With Niclas Fullkrug, Jarrod Bowen, and Michail Antonio spending several weeks on the sidelines this season, West Ham cannot afford another injury-prone attacker. However, the Hammers face stiff competition from Bournemouth, Coventry City, and Leeds United for the English striker’s signature.
