Mikel Arteta might use a defender as makeshift attacker after Kai Havertz blow

Arsenal have been handed a major injury blow, with German international Kai Havertz set to face an extended spell on the sidelines.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Mikel Arteta is now ready to improvise and use a defender in an attacking position to cope with the injuries of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

The report states that players like Ben White and Riccardo Calafiori could be used upfront to ease Arsenal’s attacking problems, with the duo set for auxiliary roles in the final third.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few days. Using a defender upfront will certainly be a surprising and bizarre choice from Arteta. Alternatively, the Arsenal manager could use Leandro Trossard as a striker. The Belgian international will certainly be better suited to leading the line compared to a defender.

Arsenal are in the middle of a title race, and they will be thoroughly disappointed with the injuries coming their way. The Gunners will hope that it does not derail their push for the Premier League title.

Arsenal missed out on the league title narrowly in the last two seasons, and they will be desperate to go all the way this time around. It remains to be seen whether they can continue in their impressive run of form and win the Premier League title this season. They are currently seven points adrift of leaders Liverpool.

Arsenal need their key players back

Arsenal will hope that some of their key players can return to action during the business end of the 2024/25 season and help them finish the season strongly. They are in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 as well, and they will be hoping to do well in the competition. It remains to be seen whether they can win a trophy this season.

The North Londoners have shown tremendous improvement under Arteta in recent seasons, but they have not been able to back it up with silverware. The fans are clearly growing impatient, and they will demand for the players to step up and deliver a trophy now.

As for their attacking problems, it remains to be seen whether the defender chosen to lead the line can make his mark as a makeshift attacker for the remainder of the season. A deal will only see the light of day in the summer transfer window amid their links with Karim Adeyemi and Benjamin Sesko.
