Liverpool have been told to pay €40 million to sign Frenkie De Jong in the summer as the midfielder could potentially leave Barcelona.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona will reportedly demand at least €40 million to sell Frenkie De Jong amid Liverpool’s interest. The Dutch midfielder has shot up to the top of Liverpool’s list ahead of the summer, as there’s a big possibility he leaves Barcelona in the close season.
The Frenkie De Jong situation at Barcelona will worry the fans, who like the midfielder at the club and will be disappointed to see him leave. The Dutchman’s contractual situation is something of a bother for the club and fans, as the signs point towards a potential exit in the summer.
De Jong’s current deal expires in 2026, as a failure to renew will see Barcelona consider a sale in the summer rather than the risk of losing a high-value target on a Bosman deal in 2026. Hence, they might be open to the prospect of selling De Jong, as Liverpool are interested in the Dutch midfielder.
Liverpool are reportedly open to paying €35 million, which Barceloina are unhappy with as they are demanding at least €40 million to sell the midfielder. There might be the element of adding some bonuses on top of the demand although that is not something the report mentions, yet it remains a possibility.
The Merseysiders will be keen to add the Dutchman to the mix for Arne Slot to use. De Jong has plenty of pedigree and remains a big target for many of Liverpool’s domestic rivals, as many will be interested given Barcelona’s €40 million asking price is out in the open.
Liverpool keen on a top midfielder
Liverpool wanted Martin Zubimendi on priority last summer, and as the midfielder has agreed terms with Arsenal as per multiple sources, they might be considering other options. In truth, there are hardly any options in the market that are close to De Jong, which does make the Dutchman a big idea, especially at his €40 million price tag.
Hence, it must be in Liverpool’s interest to push for a move and seal the transfer as early as possible. There;’s still the chance that Barcelona might offer him a new deal, as the player himself likes the idea of staying in the city, which might come to harm Liverpool’s chances.
