Liverpool considering Frenkie de Jong summer swoop

Arne Slot’s Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Barcelona midfield star Frenkie de Jong ahead of next season.

Liverpool have already started planning for the next summer transfer window. The Reds will focus on reinforcing their midfield and according to a report from Caught Offside, they are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong

The Merseyside club are certainly enjoying life under Arne Slot as they are the favourites for the Premier League title and have been a dominant force in the Champions League. While all is going great for Liverpool, they have already started holding internal talks about their priority targets for the next summer transfer window.

There are a few concerns they want to address ahead of next season, but their priority will be to add more quality to their midfield. The Reds went after the signature of Martin Zubimendi, whose move they have ruled out now, last summer. Despite all their efforts, they could not add the Spaniard to their squad.

Slot then decided to use Ryan Gravenberch in a deeper role. While the Dutch international has been doing wonders for them and Liverpool look strong in that position, they could still do with some more quality and depth.

Liverpool want to sign de Jong

Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong is one of the names on Liverpool’s wishlist. The Merseyside outfit have a long-standing interest in him and since he could be an ideal fit in Slot’s system, the Reds are looking to go hard for his signature.

While de Jong’s contract at the Catalan club runs until the summer of 2026, they are reportedly ready to part ways with him as he has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Hansi Flick. The Dutch midfielder is on massive wages at Barcelona and since he has only racked up 845 minutes so far, the Catalan giants want to get him off their books.

Frenkie de Jong could be available for just €35 million as Barcelona are ready to part ways with him, although they had a higher price previously. The fee won’t be a problem for the Reds, but his massive wages could complicate things as they have put off Liverpool and other clubs in the past.
