Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United will reportedly compete with Nottingham Forest to sign 24-year-old Colombian international Richard Rios from Palmeiras.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Richard Rios has garnered a market in the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, and Nottingham Forest are interested in landing the Palmeiras midfielder. However, the three Premier League clubs do not want to trigger the release clause of €100 million to sign the Colombian international from the Brazilian club.
The rise of Richard Rios
Richard Rios has established himself as one of the most highly sought-after players in South America since breaking out at the 2024 Copa America. A native of Vegachi, he spent his formative years in Brazil and graduated from the youth division at Flamengo.
However, the 24-year-old rose in prominence during the Copa America while going from strength to strength since joining Palmeiras from Guarani FC nearly two years ago. Rios has turned out over 100 times thus far for Palmeiras while chipping in with nine goals and six assists.
Meanwhile, the Colombian midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United vying for his signature. However, the South American midfielder’s release clause of €100 million might pose a problem.
London calling?
Widespread reports have linked Richard Rios with Tottenham Hotspur for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, considering Ange Postecoglou wants more options in the middle of the park. So, the Palmeiras midfielder has emerged as a viable target for Tottenham.
As for West Ham United, Guido Rodriguez, Edson Alvarez, and Tomas Soucek have blown hot and cold. In addition, it is unclear if Carlos Soler will complete a permanent move to the London Stadium in the summer transfer window. So, Rios is an option worth considering from West Ham.
Apart from Tottenham and West Ham, Nottingham Forest will compete for the 24-year-old Colombian midfielder’s signature. However, the three Premier League clubs do not want to cough up €100 million to sign him from Palmeiras. So, it will be interesting to see if the player arrives in Europe in the coming months.
