Manchester United have deal in place for Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United already have a deal in place to sign Swedish sensation Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP next summer.

According to Miguel Delaney via Football Transfers, Manchester United have already struck a deal to sign Sporting CP superstar Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish international will be making the move to Old Trafford to reunite with Ruben Amorim ahead of next season.

Gyokeres has been on fire since he moved to Portugal in the summer of 2023. After a sensational debut season, he has carried that form into the ongoing campaign and has 41 goal contributions in his 34 outings.

His exceptional performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs and Manchester United have been linked with him for some time. The arrival of former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim at the club in November has only strengthened those links.

The Red Devils have been struggling in front of goal since the start of the season. While they have made massive investments to bring Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund to the club, they failed to impress in the ongoing campaign.

Why United didn’t sign a forward in January?

They have been at the receiving end of a lot of criticism and many expected United to make additions to their attack during the winter break. Not only did they fail to make any attacking signings, but they also sanctioned the departures of Antony and Marcus Rashford.

The Red Devils do not have the best of financial situations and it might have played a part in them not making any big move in January. But, that was not the only reason they didn’t go hard to bring in a Rashford replacement. One of the reasons, they didn’t make any moves was because they already have a deal in place to bring Gyokeres to Old Trafford next summer.

They have already laid the groundwork for reuniting the Swedish international with the Portuguese boss. The 26-year-old is protected by a €100 million release clause and Sporting would have insisted on payment in full for mid-season transfer. But, they were ready to negotiate a fee of around €60 to €70 million for a transfer next summer and that might have certainly helped United’s cause.
