Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona handed boost in Viktor Gyokeres chase

A host of Viktor Gyoeres’ suitors have been boosted by reports of Sporting CP reducing the striker’s asking price for the summer.

According to Fichajes, Sporting CP have considered slashing Viktor Gyokeres’ asking price ahead of the summer. A host of clubs are interested in the Swedish striker, including Manchester United, Barcelona and Arsenal, as a move away from Portugal seems all the more possible.

Another window went by, and no big club managed to prise Viktor Gyokeres way from Sporting CP. There have been plenty of links to some of the top teams in the Premier League, with Manchester United and Arsenal particularly mentioned more times than one. At the same time, Barcelona has also been seen as a solid suitor.

Gyokeres was expected to stay at Sporting in January, as there’s a feeling he might only move next summer. Barcelona are seen as a suitor, as they have reportedly identified the Swede as a direct replacement for Robert Lewandowski. However, the Catalans and others may have made a move if not for his prohibitive €100 million release clause.

Meanwhile, they might have seen their chances get a boost, as Sporting CP have reportedly reduced their asking price. Now, they are open to selling the striker for around €60 million, which might seem reasonable for one of the prolific marksmen on the continent.

The reasons for Sporting reducing the asking price drastically are not clear at the moment, but it could be a bid to open the doors for Gyokeres to make a big move. Even at that price, they are in line to make a massive profit on their investment, which has already landed them success domestically.

Arsenal and Manchester United are keen on Gyokeres

One of the clubs who are expected to make a move for Gyokeres are Manchester United, who are optimistic about landing the striker. The presence of former Sporting manager Ruben Amorim adds to the fuel of speculation linking the striker to Old Trafford, as the Portuguese boss might prefer to have the Swede leading the line rather than his current options at the club.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have been perenially linked with the striker, although he’s probably not seen as a priority by Mikel Arteta. They might have to cough up a large sum for priority target Alexander Isak, while others like Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins are also on their list ahead of Gyokeres. However, the €60 million-rated star’s reduced asking price might pique Arsenal’s interest, which could bring them back in the hunt.
