Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City could intensify their pursuit of 26-year-old AC Milan midfield mainstay Tijjani Reijnders.
After a poor first half in the 2024/25 season, Manchester City went hard in the winter transfer window. They spent a significant amount and made a few key additions to their squad in an attempt to improve things in the second half.
While they have forked out massive funds in the recently concluded window, City will be back in the market next summer to make a few more additions to their squad. Pep Guardiola’s team will look to add more quality to their midfield and according to a report from Fichajes, the Premier League giants could step up their interest in the services of Tijjani Reijnders, who has been doing wonders in Italy.
After making a name for himself at AZ Alkmaar, the Dutch international made the move to AC Milan in the summer of 2023. Reijnders had an impressive debut season, and he has carried that into his second season at the Italian club.
The 26-year-old is already one of the mainstays at Milan. Tijjani Reijnders has contributed towards 14 goals in his 34 outings. While the players prefers playing as a central midfielder, he is very well capable of featuring in a deeper role as well as in a more advanced role when needed.
City keen on signing Reijnders
The Dutchman’s consistent performances along with his versatility have caught the attention of Guardiola, who is looking to add more quality to his midfield. The Manchester City manager has become a massive admirer of Tijjani Reijnders, and he wants him in his team ahead of next season.
With Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne in the twilight of their career, Manchester City need to freshen things up in the middle, and Reijnders could be an exceptional signing for them thanks to his ability to feature in different roles.
The Dutch midfielder’s contract at Milan runs until the summer of 2028 and given his tactical importance they want him around for a long time. But, people at the Serie A club are aware of the fact that they can match the finances that City could put on the table.
More importantly, Tijjani Reijnders could be attracted by the idea of playing under Guardiola and competing for all major titles. While there is still a lot of time left for the next transfer window, preliminary talks could begin in the coming months.
