Aston Villa set to revive moves for Juan Foyth and Alex Baena

Aston Villa will reportedly reignite the moves to sign Juan Foyth and Alex Baena from La Liga club Villarreal in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Juan Foyth and Alex Baena remain the subjects of interest from Aston Villa. The Villains were keen on signing the Villarreal duo in the winter transfer window before failing to secure their services. However, the West Midlands outfit will revive the moves for the two players, with Arsenal and Tottenham keen on signing Baena.

The rise of Alex Baena and Juan Foyth

Alex Baena has established himself as one of the best creative players in La Liga since breaking into the first-team squad at Villarreal. The Spaniard has been a regular for the Yellow Submarine in the last few seasons, and he has amassed five goals and five assists in 21 appearances across all competitions this term.

As for Juan Foyth, the Argentine international has resurrected his stuttering fortunes since joining Villarreal from Tottenham Hotspur. The 27-year-old was also part of the squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, the Villarreal duo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Aston Villa. In addition, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Baena.

Men in demand

Aston Villa mulled over signing Juan Foyth and Alex Baena in the winter transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest is understandable, considering Axel Disasi’s long-term future is uncertain. In addition, Aston Villa can do with more creativity in the final third if they qualify for a European competition again.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s interest in Alex Baena makes sense. Mikel Arteta does not have an alternative to Martin Odegaard in his squad, and the Gunners have suffered in the Norwegian playmaker’s absence. So, Baena is an option worth considering for Arsenal.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, James Maddison has blown hot and cold, and the North London club’s creative output needs improvements. So, Baena has emerged as a viable target for Tottenham.

With Aston Villa ready to rekindle the moves for Foyth and Baena, a winter agreement might be on the cards. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the Villarreal duo heading into the summer transfer window.
