Manchester United could accept cut-price fee for Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United are reportedly warming up to the possibility of accepting a cut-price fee of around £40 million for Rasmus Hojlund in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Rasmus Hojlund faces an uncertain future at Manchester United heading into the summer transfer window. The Danish striker’s struggles are forcing the Red Devils to consider a departure after the 2024/25 season ends, and they might accept cut-price bids of around £40 million in the coming months.

Rasmus Hojlund and his Manchester United woes

Rasmus Hojlund has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Manchester United from Atalanta in a deal worth around £72 million (including add-ons) in August 2023. The Dane arrived at Old Trafford amid hype and fanfare surrounding him after showing promising signs during his spell with La Dea.

However, while the 22-year-old enjoyed an impressive debut campaign with Manchester United, he has been horrendous thus far this term, experiencing the dreaded “second season syndrome”. Hojlund has managed only seven goals and one assist in 30 appearances across all competitions.

The Danish striker’s output in the Premier League paints a sorry picture, as he has managed only two goals in 19 outings thus far. So, it is hardly surprising that Manchester United are mulling over cashing in on the player in the summer transfer window, even though he is a highly-rated striker.

What next?

Recent reports have linked Rasmus Hojlund with Serie A giants like Juventus and Napoli. However, the update by TEAMtalk has not revealed the identity of prospective suitors, although they have discussed other information, namely Manchester United’s openness to recouping a cut-price fee of around £40 million in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United’s decision is surprising, considering several other players deserve to be offloaded before Hojlund. Nevertheless, the 22-year-old Dane remains on the chopping block, and a bid worth around £40 million might be enough to prise him away from Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.

TEAMtalk has also claimed that Manchester United only wanted to cough up £45 million to secure Hojlund’s services in the summer transfer window. That outlay would not have led to a loss upon selling the Danish international for around £40 million. However, spending £72 million on the youngster means Manchester United might book a loss on his sale.
