Galatasaray plot Kieran Trippier move, bid rejected

Turkish champions Galatasaray are reportedly interested in signing 34-year-old English full-back Kieran Trippier from Newcastle United before the winter transfer window closes.

According to a report by ESPN, Kieran Trippier is the subject of interest from Galatasaray. The Turkish Super Lig champions are keen on signing a right-back before the winter transfer window shuts down. So, the veteran Newcastle United full-back has emerged as a target for Cimbom.

Meanwhile, a report by Caught Offside has revealed that the Turkish champions have already submitted a bid to sign the Englishman before the winter transfer window shuts down in Turkiye. However, while Trippier has been open to leaving Newcastle United, the Magpies have turned down the bid by Galatasaray, leaving the veteran full-back’s morale “seriously damaged”.

Kieran Trippier and his Newcastle United journey so far

Kieran Trippier has been among the most dependable full-backs in the Premier League since joining Newcastle United from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth £12 million in January 2022. While the experienced defender’s stock has fallen in the last six months, he has been a transformative signing for the Tyneside outfit.

The 34-year-old has turned out over 100 times thus far for Newcastle United while chipping in with two goals and 23 assists. However, the English full-back’s long-term future at St. James’ Park has been uncertain since becoming Valentino Livramento’s deputy. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, including Galatasaray.

Turkish adventure beckoning?

Kieran Trippier was a target for Turkish clubs in the summer transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. Galatasaray’s interest over a winter move is understandable, considering they need more reinforcements for a hectic second half of the 2024/25 season.

So, the Turkish champions have been keen on signing Trippier in the winter transfer window, with the 34-year-old Englishman ready to embark on a loan move away from Newcastle United. However, the Magpies have rejected Galatasaray’s bid for the veteran full-back, leaving his morale “seriously damaged”.

Caught Offside has claimed that the English defender remains in Eddie Howe’s plans, even though recent reports pointed to Newcastle United’s openness to sanctioning an exit in January. So, Trippier will remain at St. James’ Park until the 2024/25 season ends.
