Chelsea are willing to sell Christopher Nkunku next summer as the attacker is not settled enough to forge a career at Stamford Bridge.
According to Football Insider, Christopher Nkunku’s career could be far away from Stamford Bridge in the future, as Chelsea are ready to sell the Frenchman next summer. Plenty of clubs were interested in the attacker, but the asking price made it difficult for suitors to make the move to Janajry.
Christopher Nkunku continues to face a positional dilemma on Enzo Maresca’s side. He’s wondering what he might have to do to get regular game time. Despite being the second-highest goalscorer in all competitions at Chelsea this season, he continues to spend more time on the bench.
Maresca has been asked about which position suits the Frenchman. Early suggestions pointed clearly towards him being a competitor to Nicolas Jackson, but he’s also seen as a backup in the No.10 role. On Monday night, the Chelsea boss chose to use Marc Guiu when Jackson came off injured, which currently points at Nkunku being used in the Joao Felix role.
Incidentally, Felix was a backup to Cole Palmer, but the Portuguese attacker has since left in the January window to join AC Milan. Hence, there’s a feeling Nkunku could help Chelsea in that role, but he will still remain behind Palmer in the pecking order. The Portuguese’s departure meant Nkunku was set for a stay at Chelsea, as his future would be decided in the summer.
In any case, Nkunku’s future looks far away from Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea are willing to sell him for a fee of £60-70 million in the summer. The report states that some suitors are interested, but none came forward in the January window to pay a similar asking price for the French attacker.
Will Chelsea manage to find the right suitor for Christopher Nkunku?
Nkunku was open to joining Manchester United in January as the Red Devils showed an interest but could not pay the asking price. Moreover, the Frenchman was uninterested in leaving on loan, as Bayern Munich were also in the mix.
The summer window is more open financially for clubs, and teams like Manchester United will have the budgets to stretch. Hence, Chelsea could find the right suitor for Nkunku in the next window, as his future looks far away from Stamford Bridge as things stand.
