The rise and rise of Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg

Jobe Bellingham has followed in his brother’s footsteps by establishing himself as one of the best young midfield prospects in the world. A native of Stourbridge, the Englishman rose in prominence during his spell with Birmingham City FC before joining Sunderland in July 2023. The move has done wonders for his career, with the youngster becoming one of the best players in the EFL Championship.

Bellingham has turned out 74 times thus far for Sunderland while chipping in with 11 goals and four assists. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old midfielder’s teammate Chris Rigg has also made his mark for Sunderland since breaking into the first-team squad at the Stadium of Light in January 2023.

The English midfield sensation has been a regular for Sunderland this season, amassing over 2,000 minutes of game time across 28 appearances in all competitions while chipping in with four goals and one assist. Meanwhile, the teenage duo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Arsenal and Manchester United recently scouting them in the EFL Championship game between Middlesbrough and Sunderland at the Riverside Stadium.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Arsenal’s interest in Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg is understandable. Thomas Partey and Jorginho have entered the final six months of their contracts, and they will likely part ways with the North London outfit in the summer transfer window. In addition, the Gunners need an alternative to Martin Odegaard. So, the Sunderland prodigies have emerged as viable targets for Arsenal.

As for Manchester United, the Red Devils briefly mulled over a winter move for Chris Rigg. However, his teammate is also a viable target for Manchester United, considering Casemiro and Christian Eriksen will likely depart from Old Trafford in the summer transfer window. So, the Sunderland prospects are options worth considering for the Premier League outfit.

Middlesbrough vs Sunderland was a captivating affair that ended in a 3-2 win for the Black Cats. It will be interesting to see if Arsenal and Manchester United follow up on their interest by launching the offensive to sign the English teenage duo in the summer transfer window.
