Arsenal could offer new deal to Jorginho amid Flamengo links

Arsenal could offer Jorginho a new deal to keep him at the club beyond the summer despite the ongoing links to Flamengo.

According to UOL, Flamengo might have to wrap up a deal for Jorginho as soon as possible, as the Gunners could offer the Italian a new deal to stay at the club. The midfielder is no longer the automatic starter under Mikel Arteta, but the manager has used his experience in the right way in games.

Arsenal could be heading for a summer of change as some players are coming to the end of their tenure at the club. For instance, Thomas Partey and Jorginho are in the final months of their deal, as the wider expectation suggests that one of them could depart in the summer.

Partey is an automatic starter for Mikel Arteta, while Jorginho has come in handy in games when Arsenal’s key players are missing. The Italian veteran has been an immense presence for the Gunners, as they tend to do well with him in the side, and the manager values his experience highly.

Flamengo held advanced talks with Arsenal in January to sign Jorginho, but the club did not want to lose a key player like the Italian midway through the season. Other reports have stated that Flamengo has an agreement to sign him on a free transfer, although that might not be the case.

Flamengo are indeed in the mix to offer a pre-contract agreement with the midfielder, as they are eager to return him to Brazil. His agent is expected to meet the club officials soon to discuss a move, although the Brazilian side might have to rush through the process as there might be a worrying update.

Arsenal to offer Jorginho a new contract?

Arsenal could see two influential midfielders, Partey and Jorginho, leave this summer, although there’s an off chance they might look to retain one. The report states that the Gunners could even offer Jorginho a new deal and persuade him to stay longer, which might be something the midfielder might think about.

Jorginho is thought to be doing his coaching badges and would benefit from the chance to stay in the top European leagues. However, the chance to return to his native Brazil could also entice him to continue playing, as Flamengo could still have a big chance with the midfielder.
