Arsenal could try again to sign Ollie Watkins in the summer, with Aston Villa open to dealing at a specific price.
According to Fichajes, Aston Villa could be open to selling Ollie Watkins next summer for their price. Arsenal are still interested in the striker despite failing to land him in the window, and Mikel Arteta could angle another bid in the next market.
Arsenal fans were dejected at the prospect of the club doing no business. The supporters and Mikel Arteta desperately wanted a new striker to come in as they had shortages with injuries in the frontline. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have serious injuries, directly burdening Kai Havetz, with the German being the only recognised centre-forward in the squad.
Arsenal conceded defeat in their efforts to bring a new striker in the window, although they had links to at least five names, including Olliie Watkins. The Gunners reportedly failed with an offer at a time when Aston Villa were negotiating to sell Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr.
Selling their two recognised striker in a few days would have been unprecedented for Aston Villa in the context of their season. In any case, they would not have sold Watkins to Arsenal, despite the north Londoners staying confident until the end when the striker wanted the move.
However, Villa are open to dealing with the Gunners for the striker in the summer, provided they can come up with an offer of about €60 million for the 29-year-old. The striker is considered a boyhood fan of the Gunners and could be open to playing at the Emirates should the club come forward with another offer.
Will Arsenal sign Ollie Watkins?
It’s no secret that Arsenal need a striker, and the idea to chase the €60 million-rated Aston Villa star would have stemmed from the fact that he’s a readymade product for their forward line. While the report states they might try again for the England international in the summer, there are doubts about whether he is Arteta’s No.1 choice.
There are considerable links to Benjamin Sesko, while Alexander Isak is considered Arteta’s No.1 target and a dream striker option should Arsenal manage to bring him. Should neither become available next summer, the Gunners could try again for Watkins.
