Jorginho has sealed pre-contract agreement with Flamengo

Arsenal midfield star Jorginho has a pre-contract agreement in place with Flamengo for a free transfer in the summer.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Jorginho will be joining Flamengo at the end of the season as they have a pre-contract agreement in place with the Italian international. While they were pushing to secure his services in the winter transfer window, Mikel Arteta has managed to hold onto his midfield star for now.

The 33-year-old defensive midfielder made the move to Arsenal at the start of 2023 in a deal worth £12 million. He has been a key figure in the team ever since. While the veteran midfielder was a regular feature in their starting XI until last season, he has not been a regular in the ongoing campaign.

Mikel Arteta has preferred having Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, and Thomas Partey in the centre of the park and Jorginho has been forced to settle for minutes in cup competitions. While he remains a very important squad player under the Spanish manager, the Italian international is in the twilight of his career and is looking at the next step in his career.

Jorginho to join Flamengo before Club World Cup

The 33-year-old has only had limited game time this season, clubs from across the globe were looking to prise him away in the winter transfer window. Brazilian giants Flamengo were keen on acquiring his services before the start of their new campaign.

In recent days, they did try to persuade Arsenal to release Jorginho mid-season. But, Atreta was keen on having him around as he could play a pivotal role in the second half of the campaign. While the veteran midfielder has managed to keep hold of the 33-year-old until the end of the season, he won’t be around next season.

The Italian midfield genius has signed a pre-contract with the Brazilian side ahead of a summer move. They were keen on making a marquee move before the Club World Cup in the US in the summer and have succeeded in doing so as Jorginho is expected to be available for the mega-event.

While Arsenal would have loved to have him around for longer, he wants regular first-team minutes, and a move away next summer seems to be in the best interest of all parties involved.
