Carney Chukwuemeka turned down Everton and West Ham United before securing a loan move to Borussia Dortmund on deadline day.
According to a report from Football Insider, Everton and West Ham United were both keen on signing Carney Chukwuemeka on deadline day. While both Premier League clubs did put in a lot of effort to sign him, neither of them were able to convince him to join them.
The former Aston Villa prospect turned down offers from both the Toffees and the Hammers in favour of making the move to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund. While he joined them on a short loan spell, the German club do have an option to make the move permanent.
Carney Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea in the summer of 2022 after coming up the ranks and making a name for himself at Aston Villa. While everyone at the London club are well aware of his massive potential, things did not work out for him at Stamford Bridge as he never really got an extended run in their first team.
The 21-year-old was not an important part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, and it was quite clear by the fact that he had featured in five games racking up just 130 minutes of first-team football throughout the first half of the season.
Chukwuemeka rejected Everton and West Ham
Carney Chukwuemeka was pushing for a move away in search of regular minutes, and Chelsea were open to a mid-season departure, With the Blues ready to negotiate his departure, multiple top clubs were keen on signing him.
West Ham and Everton were two Premier League clubs who wanted to add him to their ranks. Both clubs have not been at their best this season, and they were looking to bring in the Chelsea star to add more quality to their midfield.
Everton and West Ham were hoping to win the race for his signature and did table an offer to lure him to the club. But, Chukwuemeka turned them down and ended up joining Borussia Dortmund on a short six-month loan spell with a reported purchase option worth £40 million. Apart from the buy clause, the Bundesliga club will also be paying a loan fee for the 21-year-old.
