Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are reportedly interested in signing 18-year-old English attacking prospect Tom Watson from EFL Championship club Sunderland.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Tom Watson has courted interest from the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are among the prospective suitors vying for the Sunderland winger’s signature, with the EFL Championship club already rejecting a bid worth £2 million from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Who is Tom Watson?
Tom Watson is one of the brightest young prospects in the EFL Championship. Born in Easington, the Englishman has spent his formative years thus far in his homeland, graduating from the youth division at Sunderland AFC after rising through the ranks at the Wearside club.
The 18-year-old broke into the first-team squad at the Stadium of Light towards the end of the 2022/23 season, making his senior bow a few days after his 17th birthday. The teenage sensation had to wait 18 more months before scoring the first league goal of his professional career, delivering the goods in a 2-1 win EFL Championship over Stoke City earlier this season.
The English attacking prospect has turned out 13 times thus far for the Black Cats while chipping in with two goals. Meanwhile, Watson’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known Premier League clubs. Brighton & Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are his prospective suitors in the winter transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Tom Watson is understandable. The Lilywhites have focused on youth signings in the last few transfer windows, with Daniel Levy eager to build a world-class squad for the long run. So, Lucas Bergvall and Luka Vuskovic are some of the prodigies to join Tottenham, with Watson emerging as a target.
As for Everton, Jack Harrison has struggled to make his mark this season. So, the Toffees have been keen on signing a wide attacker in the winter transfer window, with Watson emerging as a viable target. Meanwhile, Brighton & Hove Albion have already submitted a bid to sign the young Englishman, offering £2 million to sign him from Sunderland.
However, the Black Cats have rejected Brighton’s proposal, although the Seagulls are ready to return with an improved bid. So, it will be interesting to see if the 18-year-old English winger’s spell with the EFL Championship club ends this month amid his links with Tottenham, Everton, and Brighton.
