Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have an agreement in place to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Marco Asensio on loan.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Marco Asensio is all set to join Aston Villa on a temporary basis. Unai Emery’s team have reached an agreement with all parties involved to sign him on a short loan for the second half of the 2024/25 season.
Asensio made quite a name for himself during his time at Real Madrid. He played a massive part in all the success they had before leaving them to join PSG in the summer of 2023. The move to Parc des Princes has not really worked out for him.
He struggled with injuries and only had limited game time during his debut campaign. While he has been fully fit this time around, the Spanish international is not an important part of Luis Enrique’s plans. Asensio has been involved in 16 games, but he has been on the pitch for just 755 minutes.
Asensio to travel to England today
The lack of minutes frustrated the 29-year-old, who has been pushing for a move away in search of a more prominent role. Aston Villa had emerged as a potential destination. Emery’s team cashed in on Jhon Duran by selling him to Saudi giants Al-Nassr, and they are now looking to use those funds to bolster their attack.
Aston Villa are pushing for a top-four finish in the Premier League, and they have also made it to the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League. Emery wants to ensure he has enough firepower to stay competitive on both fronts. They are working to add multiple stars to their team and it seems they are on the verge of adding Asensio to their squad.
The Villans have reached an agreement with PSG to sign the Spanish winger on loan. With the move getting the green light, the player is expected to travel to England today to complete the final formalities before the transfer becomes official.
Fabrizio Romano had earlier reported that it would be a straightforward loan deal and would not include any buy option/obligation. So, Asensio is expected to be back at PSG at the end of the season.
