Everton will sign 22-year-old Argentine midfielder Carlos Alcaraz on loan from Flamengo until the end of the 2024/25 season.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Carlos Alcaraz has been the subject of interest from Everton. The versatile Argentine midfielder is on the verge of joining the Merseyside club on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season. The purchase option will turn into a mandatory buying clause in case the Toffees meet “certain conditions”.
Carlos Alcaraz and his career so far
Carlos Alcaraz has enjoyed a resurgent run since joining Flamengo from Southampton in August 2024. A native of La Plata, the versatile South American spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Racing Club. The youngster’s exploits earned him a move to the Premier League in January 2023, with Southampton securing his services.
However, the 22-year-old could not stop Southampton from suffering relegation from the Premier League despite being a rare bright spark for the Saints. A loan move to Juventus did not work out either, and the highly-rated midfielder could not even manage 500 minutes of game time across 12 outings.
The move to Flamengo has worked for the versatile Argentine midfielder, who has turned out 19 times thus far for the Brazilian outfit while chipping in with three goals and two assists. Meanwhile, Alcaraz’s stock has soared again, with Premier League clubs showing interest in him since last summer. The youngster will return to England this month by joining Everton.
Premier League return on the horizon
Everton’s interest in Carlos Alcaraz makes sense. David Moyes has demanded a new midfielder for his squad in the winter transfer window, with the former Manchester United manager desiring more creativity from the middle of the park. So, several candidates, including Carney Chukwuemeka, emerged on Everton’s radar.
However, the Toffees have zeroed in on Alcaraz as the midfield reinforcement for the winter transfer window, striking an agreement with Flamengo over a loan move. Everton will have a purchase option in the deal.
However, it will turn into a mandatory purchase clause if they meet “certain conditions. So, it will be interesting to see how the 22-year-old Argentine midfielder fares at Goodison Park after he joins Everton.
