Chelsea and Tottenham will now have to fork out €70 million to sign Bayer Leverkusen defensive sensation Piero Hincapie.
Chelsea and Tottenham are both looking to add more quality as well as depth to their backline and according to SportBILD via SportWitness, both London clubs are interested in the services of Bayer Leverkusen star Piero Hincapie.
While the Ecuadorian international recently penned a contract extension, he could still end up making the move to the Premier League. But, the asking price has gone up as Bayer are now looking for a massive fee of around €70 million.
Hincapie has only gone from strength to strength since joining the German outfit from CA Talleres. He played a massive part in Leverkusen’s dominant run last season as they won the Bundesliga unbeaten. He remains one of the first names on their team sheet and was recently rewarded for his consistent performances.
They handed him a new deal that runs until the summer of 2029 with improved wages last month. While it did commit his long-term future to the club with that contract, the report suggests the South American international could still part ways with the Bundesliga outfit.
Meanwhile, Leverkusen are ready to sanction his departure as long as they receive €70 million from his sale. While interested clubs can try to sign him in the ongoing window, a summer move looks a very likely outcome.
Premier League giants want Hincapie
Multiple clubs have registered their interest in the 23-year-old versatile defender over the last few seasons. While quite a few clubs remain interested in him, Tottenham and Chelsea are two English clubs who have him quite high on their wishlist.
The Blues are looking to bring in a world-class centre-back to further bolster their squad. They already have a lot of options in their squad but Enzo Maresca seeks more quality, someone who can lead the backline and Hincapie has shown such qualities at the German club.
While the North London club have quality defensive options in Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin, Ange Potsecoglou wants to further strengthen the rotation by signing the Ecuadorian international.
Hincapie is quite happy to continue at Bayer, as a result, Spurs and Chelsea will have to convince him about a move away and then fork out €70 million to get a deal over the line.
