AC Milan eyeing Dani Olmo swoop, six-month deal offered

Serie A giants AC Milan are reportedly keen on signing 26-year-old Barcelona playmaker Dani Olmo on a short-term deal until the end of the 2024/25 season.

According to a report by Corriere della Sera via Milan Eye, Dani Olmo is the subject of interest from AC Milan. However, the structure of the deal is unprecedented, as the Serie A giants want to sign the Barcelona playmaker on a short-term deal until the end of the 2024/25 season for free before he returns to Barcelona and signs a new contract.

Dani Olmo and his Barcelona homecoming

Dani Olmo has hit the ground running since returning to Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The Spaniard has continued his fitness issues from his time with RB Leipzig, missing over half a dozen games due to a muscle injury in the first quarter of the 2024/25 season.

However, Olmo has made his mark whenever he has been on the pitch, delivering the goods in the final third. The 26-year-old has chipped in with six goals and one assist in 15 appearances across all competitions thus far this term. However, his Barcelona future has come under a cloud of uncertainty.

The Catalan giants’ financial issues have caught up with them, and they have had to de-register Olmo and Pau Victor from La Liga. The situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, especially in the Premier League. However, a short adventure in Serie A might be on the cards, with AC Milan vying for his signature.

Serie A adventure beckons?

AC Milan’s interest in Dani Olmo is understandable. The Serie A giants have been scouring the market for a creative attacker heading into the winter transfer window. While Christian Pulisic has excelled while reprising the no. 10 role, he can play on the right flank to accommodate Olmo.

So, the Barcelona playmaker has emerged as a viable target, although the deal reported by Corriere della Sera is bizarre. The Serie A giants are ready to sign the 26-year-old Spaniard for six months for free before he returns to Barcelona on a new contract.

Olmo’s current contract with Barcelona provides him a clause to leave as a free agent. So, Corriere della Sera’s claims can come true. However, with the Blaugrana scrambling to register the Spanish international in La Liga again, a move to AC Milan might only materialise towards the end of the winter transfer window.
