Manchester City could trigger Mohammed Kudus release clause next summer

Manchester City could trigger the massive £85 million release clause to sign West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus amidst interest from Arsenal.

Manchester City are going through their most difficult season under Pep Guardiola. Injuries to key players have not helped the cause of the Spanish manager and with quite a few of his stars in the twilight of his career, City could make significant changes to their squad.

West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus is one of the names on their wishlist and according to a report from Football Insider, Manchester City are ready to trigger his release clause to add him to their squad ahead of next season.

Kudus has only gone from strength to strength since making the move to West Ham from Ajax in the summer of 2023. The Ghanaian international has been one of their standout performers, and his ability to feature as a number ten as well as on the flanks has come in handy.

While the Hammers have struggled in the first half of the Premier League season, the 24-year-old has surely put in some impressive performances. Mohammed Kudus has three goals and two assists in his 16 outings, and multiple top clubs have taken note of his performance.

Manchester City and Arsenal want Kudus

Manchester City are keen on reinforcing their squad after a poor first half of the season, and they would love to sign someone like Mohammed Kudus during the winter window. But, that is unlikely to happen as the Hammers value him in excess of £100 million, and only a massive fee could force them into selling him mid-season.

But, interested clubs will surely try their luck again next summer when a £85 million release clause in his contract becomes active. With Kevin De Bruyne in the twilight of his career, Kudus could be the perfect replacement for the Belgian international. His ability to feature on the flanks will be a massive boost for Guardiola, who likes having versatile starts at his disposal.

While Manchester City could trigger his release next summer, they are not the only club interested in him as Arsenal are also monitoring him. The Gunners are looking for more firepower in the final third and Kudus could be a great addition as he can feature anywhere in attack. More importantly, he can cover for both Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.
