Manchester City have suffered a setback in their pursuit of Ola Aina as Nottingham Forest are confident about renewing his contract.
According to a report from Football Insider, Nottingham Forest are confident about agreeing on a new deal with their defensive sensation Ola Aina who is on the wishlist of giants Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s team have been linked with him of late. But it seems the Tricky Trees will soon tie him down to a long-term contract.
Aina joined Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023 after his contract at Torino ran out. The 28-year-old Chelsea academy graduate has only gone from strength to strength since returning to England. He enjoyed an impressive debut campaign and has backed it up with some outstanding performances in the first half of the 2024/25 season.
He has been involved in 19 league games and has even scored twice. Aina has been on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes on all but two occasions. His consistent performances at the back have played a major role in the dominant run in the Premier League as they sit second on the points table.
While he has been doing wonders for the Tricky Trees, his future has become a big talking point. He initially signed a one-year deal with Nottingham Forest, which was extended for another 12 months towards the end of the last season. With the current deal running out at the end of the season, multiple top clubs are taking interest in the services of the Nigerian international.
Manchester City unlikely to succeed in their pursuit of Aina
Manchester City have emerged as a potential destination for the full-back, who can feature on either flank. They are on the lookout for someone who can replace Kyle Walker in the long run and consider Aina an ideal fit for their system.
Interest from Pep Guardiola’s team can surely tempt the 28-year-old who otherwise looks quite happy at Forest. While he is now free to agree a pre-contract with a foreign club, Manchester City will have to fork out a fee if they want to sign him in January.
City might be keen on his signature but they are unlikely to succeed as Nottingham Forest are confident about agreeing on a new long-term contract with Aina. They have been in negotiations with the former Chelsea star for some time now and are optimistic that he will put pen to paper. The Tricky Trees could offer him a chance to play in Europe next season, and he would surely want to be a part of it.
