Liverpool ponder Darwin Nunez sale amid AC Milan links

Premier League heavyweights Liverpool are reportedly ready to entertain offers to part ways with 25-year-old Uruguayan attacker Darwin Nunez, with AC Milan keen.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Darwin Nunez might not have a long-term future with Liverpool. The Uruguayan international has been in and out of the starting lineup at the Merseyside club since arriving from SL Benfica in a deal worth £85 million. Meanwhile, the inconsistent attacker is a target for Serie A giants AC Milan.

Darwun Nunez and his Liverpool journey so far

Darwin Nunez has struggled to perform consistently since joining Liverpool from SL Benfica in a deal worth £85 million in July 2022. The South American forward arrived at Anfield with a burgeoning reputation for being a prolific striker. However, he has blown hot and cold in the last 30 months at the Merseyside club.

The 25-year-old was decent and impressive in his second season with Liverpool but has struggled thus far this term. Nunez has been in and out of the starting lineup throughout the 2024/25 season, and he has a paltry tally of four goals and three assists in 23 appearances across all competitions.

However, the Uruguayan international remains highly sought-after in the market despite his struggles at the Merseyside club. The Liverpool attacker recently emerged as a target for FC Barcelona, with Serie A giants AC Milan also keen on signing him next year.

Serie A adventure on the horizon?

AC Milan’s interest in Darwin Nunez is understandable. The Serie A giants are scouring the market for a striker ahead of the two transfer windows next year. While the Rossoneri signed Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham in the summer transfer window, they will likely return to the market for a centre-forward next year.

So, Nunez has emerged as a viable target for AC Milan, with recent reports claiming an initial loan move might be on the cards. However, TEAMtalk has suggested that a winter deal will not see the light of day. Meanwhile, a few strikers are on Liverpool’s wishlist to replace Nunez next year.

Alexander Isak and Marcus Thuram are on Liverpool’s radar, although both players are expensive options for the Merseyside club. So, it will be interesting to see who replaces Nunez if he leaves Liverpool in the 2025 summer transfer window.
