Liverpool are seemingly ahead of Newcastle United in the race for Belgian ace Johan Bakayoko, with PSV demanding a huge asking price.
According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are reportedly better placed than Newcastle United in the race for Johan Bakayoko. The Belgian attacker is likely to attract offers in the January window, as PSV Eindhoven are demanding a high asking fee of around €60 million to sell the winger midway through the season.
PSV Eindhoven views Johan Bakayoko as a vital part of their squad for the remainder of the season. The winger has 9-goal contributions this season in all competitions, as the Dutch side is reportedly demanding at least €60 million to sell him in January.
That idea may not play in their hands, as Bakayoko will have 18 months left on his deal and could push to join bigger clubs if sizeable offers arrive. Liverpool and Newcastle United are keen on the winger, with either side eager to strengthen their attacking setup in the winter market.
Liverpool are reportedly better placed than Newcastle United in the race owing to a variety of factors. For starters, they have the funds to sign the €60 million-rated attacking prospect, although the Reds are unlikely to pay that much and will instead look for a deal similar to the one that saw Coady Gakpo join from PSV back in January 2023.
Secondly, the presence of Arne Slot will play a major role in this recruitment as the Dutchman knows the Eredivisie well following his time at Feyenoord. His ideas to integrate Bakayoko will be key in the race for the €60 million-rated attacking prospect, as Newcastle United may not stand a chance.
Newcastle United facing financial issues ahead of January
Newcastle United are indeed interested in Bakayoko, as they are about to prioritise signing a new winger in the January window. Eddie Howe has the Belgioan on his list, which also consists of other names, as he views the PSV star as a viable replacement for Miguel Almiron and a big upgrade over Jacob Murphy.
The Magpies have financial concerns with regards to the Bakayoko deal as well as other transfer moves, as they may have to sell before they can buy new talents. Hence, their current standing would allow Liverpool the pathway to sign the Belgian if they are serious about signing the PSV star.
