Manchester City poised to intensify efforts to sign Ederson

Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly ready to ramp up their efforts to sign 25-year-old Atalanta midfielder, a target for Liverpool.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Ederson is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Atalanta midfielder is also a target for Liverpool, with the Merseyside keen on signing a holding midfielder. However, the Premier League champions are intensifying their efforts to sign the Brazilian international, who will cost around €60 million next year.

The rise and rise of Ederson

Ederson has come leaps and bounds since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in July 2022. The South American midfielder was already among the most promising young prospects in Serie A during his spell with Salernitana but has become one of the best players in the Italian top flight since joining La Dea.

The 25-year-old has turned out over 100 times thus far for Atalanta while chipping in with ten goals and three assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress at the Serie A club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe.

Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Brazilian international from Atalanta, with Liverpool and Manchester City vying for his signature. Meanwhile, the Serie A club will demand around €60 million to part ways with the former Salernitana midfielder next year.

Premier League bound soon?

Liverpool’s interest in Ederson is understandable. The Reds are scouring the market for a holding midfielder, even though Ryan Gravenberch has been a revelation this season. So, several candidates, including the Atalanta midfielder, have emerged on Liverpool’s radar.

As for Manchester City, the Brazilian international has been on the Premier League champions’ radar for a long time. The Citizens are ready to intensify their efforts to sign the player after losing Rodri to a season-ending knee injury. However, prising him away from Atalanta will be a tall order, even for Manchester City.

The Serie A giants do not want to part ways with the 25-year-old in the January transfer window despite slapping a price tag of €60 million on him. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool or Manchester City can turn Ederson’s head and land him next month.
