Manchester City have done due diligence on Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool also keen

Manchester City have reportedly done their due diligence on former academy star Jeremie Frimpong, with Liverpool also interested.

According to TBR, Jeremie Frimpong could open the doors to a transfer battle between English giants Manchester City and Liverpool. The Bayer Leverkusen star is widely expected to leave the Bundesliga next summer, as Pep Guardiola’s side has reportedly done their due diligence to bring back their former academy star.

Not may would know the fact that Jeremie Frimpong spent ten years in the Manchester City academy before leaving for Celtic. The Dutchman has gone on to have a fabulous career, most notably at Bayer Leverkusen, where he was a vital part of Xabi Alonso’s side that won the Bundesliga last season without losing a single game.

Frimpong has proved his worth as a top-draw wing-back, producing ample goals and assists from this specific role. The 23-year-old Bundesliga star has been interested in many top clubs, including Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Liverpool have scouted the player before and view him as a viable alternative to Trent Alexander-Arnold should the England international leave next summer. These are probably the biggest challenges for Frimpong ahead of next summer, although the Manchester clubs, especially Manchester City, are also keen.

Manchester City are eager to find a solution to the hapless Kyle Walker and have looked at some options to replace the right-back. Frimpong was previously asked about a return to the Etihad, and the report states the 23-year-old Bundesliga star might jump at the opportunity if one arrived.

Manchester City have done due diligence on Frimpong

As is the practice of top clubs, Manchester City have reportedly done their due diligence on Frimpong as they might be serious about re-signing their former academy star. The current view is that the Dutchman is seen as a replacement for Walker, although they have other targets like Pedro Porro for that role.

Porro might cost a lot, and as far as Frompong is concerned, his current price tag is about £33.6 million, which might be associated with a release clause. Hence, next summer could see a big battle for the Leverkusen star as Manchester City might have to compete with the likes of Liverpool and even Real Madrid.
