Liverpool, Manchester United vying for Julio Soler, River Plate set to make move

Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing 19-year-old Lanus full-back Julio Soler, with River Plate also vying for his signature ahead of next year.

According to a report by Argentine outlet Soy del Millo, Liverpool and Manchester United are keen on signing Julio Soler. The Lanus full-back prodigy is also a target for River Plate, with Liverpool and Manchester United’s interest in the 19-year-old wonderkid turning his head.

Who is Julio Soler?

Julio Soler is one of the brightest young full-backs in his homeland. A native of Asuncion, the South American wonderkid was eligible to represent Paraguay and Argentina but has chosen the latter as his national side. The youngster progressed through the ranks at CA Lanus before breaking into the first-team squad midway through the 2022 season.

The 19-year-old has become a regular for the Primera Division outfit as he closes in on completing a decade at the club. Soler has turned out over 50 times thus far for CA Lanus while chipping in with two assists. Meanwhile, Soler’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Liverpool and Manchester United. In addition, he is a target for River Plate.

A man in demand

Liverpool briefly mulled over signing the Argentine full-back prodigy in the summer transfer window before the move failed to see the light of day. The continued interest in the CA Lanus whizkid is understandable, considering Andrew Robertson is on the wrong side of 30 and has become inconsistent.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Julio Soler makes sense. While Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have recovered from their issues, the duo has barely featured for the Red Devils since the start of the 2023/24 season. So, Manchester United should invest in a left-back, with the CA Lanus wonderkid emerging as a viable target.

However, Liverpool and Manchester United face stiff competition from River Plate, with the Primera Division club keen on keeping the youngster in Argentina. Liverpool and Manchester United’s interest in the teenage sensation has also forced River Plate’s hand.

With River Plate entering the race to secure the services of the 19-year-old Argentine full-back prospect, a move within Argentina might be on the cards. However, it will be interesting to see if he lands in England next year.
