Premier League giants Manchester United and Tottenham could be involved in a transfer tussle to sign PSV Eindhoven’s Malik Tillman.
According to a report from Sky Sport, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in acquiring the services of Malik Tillman in the upcoming winter transfer. He has been on fire for PSV Eindhoven this season and both English clubs are keen on having him in their squad.
Tillman was a part of the Bayern Munich youth setup. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2021. Things didn’t work out for him at the German club and he ended up joining PSV in the summer of 2023 in search of regular first-team football.
He had an impressive debut campaign at the club following which the move was made permanent ahead of the 2024/25 season. The 22-year-old American attacking midfielder seems to have taken his game to the next level this season.
While he prefers playing as a ten, he has been used in deeper roles as well as on the left flank. Tillman has eight goals and four assists in his 19 outings. He is one of the first names on the PSV team sheet and his contract three runs until the summer of 2028. But, he might be around for too long as clubs are gearing up to make a move for him in the winter.
There is a release clause worth around €30 to €40 million in his contract but that only comes into effect next summer. As a result, any interested party will have to convince the Dutch club to sell him mid-season.
Premier League clubs could battle for Tillman
Tottenham and Manchester United are two clubs who are interested in signing the American international. Spurs parted ways with quite a few midfielders during the summer. They lack depth in that region and a versatile star like Tillman could be a perfect signing for them.
Since he is only 22, he also fits their new transfer policy that focuses on signing young stars. Meanwhile, United want to add more creativity to their midfield. They are looking for someone who can cover for Bruno Fernandes and even add more depth to their squad.
They believe in Tillman’s potential and are ready to bet on him. The player is also keen on joining a bigger club and he would love to move to the Premier League. While Bayern Munich do have a buy-back clause, a return to the German giants is not on the cards at this stage.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are looking to add some midfield depth with his signing, and it will be interesting to see if they can get the deal done. They are competing in the UEFA Champions League and need more options at their disposal to rotate the squad and keep the key players fresh.
