Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing 21-year-old versatile Dutch defender Devyne Rensch from Ajax.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Devyne Rensch is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are scouring the market for versatile defenders amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, they will face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the 21-year-old.
Who is Devyne Rensch?
Devyne Rensch has established himself as one of the brightest young prospects in his homeland in the last few years. A native of Lelystad, the Dutchman began his youth career at VV Unicum before joining Ajax in 2016. He has gone from strength to strength in the last eight and a half years.
The 21-year-old broke into the first-team squad at Ajax in 2020, making his senior bow as a teenage sensation. Since then, Rensch has gone from strength to strength, and he has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for the Eredivisie giants while chipping in with ten goals and 12 assists.
The versatile Dutch defender has been one of the bright spots in an inconsistent period for Ajax, making his mark with his performances at the back. Meanwhilel, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Devyne Rensch has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time. The continued interest in the Netherlands international is understandable, considering Trent Alexander-Arnold faces an uncertain future at the Merseyside club amid his links with Real Madrid. So, Rensch is a viable target for Liverpool, although he can also be an option for the central defensive berth.
As for Tottenham Hotspur, Pedro Porro has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. While the North London club will look to keep hold of the Spanish international for the long haul, they should keep their options open, with Rensch an option worth considering.
Signing Rensch even if Porro stays might work in Tottenham’s favour, considering he can play as a centre-back and a left-back. It will be interesting to see if the 21-year-old versatile Dutch defender lands in the Premier League anytime soon.
