Bayer Leverkusen will prefer not to entertain any bids to sell Jonathan Tah in the January transfer window amid his links with Barcelona and Real Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Jonathan Tah is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions have identified the Bayer Leverkusen defender as a target for the January transfer window. However, the Bundesliga champions do not want to part ways with the 28-year-old in the January transfer window. Meanwhile, Tah is also on Barcelona’s wishlist.
The Jonathan Tah tale
Jonathan Tah has enjoyed a much-needed transformation from a solid yet inconsistent defender to a dependable centre-back, becoming one of the best players in the Bundesliga in the last 18 months. The experienced footballer has benefitted from Xabi Alonso’s Midas Touch at Bayer Leverkusen.
The 28-year-old has turned out over 350 times thus far for Bayer Leverkusen while chipping in with 15 goals and 12 assists. However, Tah’s spell with the Bundesliga champions will end in one of the two transfer windows next year, as he has entered the final nine months of his contract and will not sign a new deal.
Meanwhile, Tah’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, incluing Barcelona and Real Madrid. In addition, many Premier League bigwigs also want to sign the German international. However, the January transfer window might have Real Madrid as the only viable suitor.
La Liga move on the horizon?
Barcelona’s interest in Jonathan Tah is understandable. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a centre-back amid Inigo Martinez’s advancing years. However, unlike Real Madrid, Barcelona will look to complete a Bosman move of the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back in the 2025 summer transfer window.
As for Real Madrid, the reigning La Liga champions are down to their bare bones in the central defensive unit after losing Eder Militao to a season-ending injury. In addition, David Alaba remains unavailable for the foreseeable future. So, Los Blancos must sign a centre-back in January, making Tah a viable target.
However, Bayer Leverkusen will prefer not to entertain any bids to sell Tah in the January transfer window. The latest update has dealt a blow to Real Madrid’s prospects, and the reigning La Liga champions must wait to secure his services, although it will be interesting to see if they can turn Bayer Leverkusen’s head with a January bid.
