Manchester City are eyeing Real Madrid midfield mainstay Federico Valverde as an ideal replacement for Rodri.
According to a report from Fichajes, Manchester City are interested in the services of Federico Valverde and they are thinking about making a move for the Real Madrid mainstay. They consider him an ideal replacement for the injured Rodri.
After coming up the ranks at Peñarol, Valverde made the move to Madrid back in 2016 and he has only gone from strength to strength since. He got promoted to their first team in 2018 and has been one of their best players in recent years.
The 26-year-old is one of the best midfielders in the world and his ability to feature almost anywhere on the pitch have made him the go-to man for Carlo Ancelotti. His versatility along with his defensive and offensive abilities have put him on the radar of Pep Guardiola.
City are interested in Valverde’s signature
The Spanish manager feels Valverde could be just the perfect signing for them to continue their dominance in the Premier League as well as Europe. City could end up making a move for the Uruguayan international in January.
They lost Rodri to a serious knee injury quite early in the season and have been looking at the market for an ideal replacement. The initial plan was to manage the situation using the players available.
However, after enduring their worst run under Guardiola, with four consecutive losses, they are now seriously considering purchasing a new midfielder in the winter as the Ballon d’Or winner might not return until the start of next season.
Valverde has all the qualities to replace Rodri and can be his long-term successor. He is at the top of the Manchester-based club’s wishlist but signing him won’t be an easy task as Madrid have no intentions of selling one of their most important players. His current deal there runs until 2029 and the Uruguayan is committed to the Spanish giants.
